Club Runs Information |
Club Runs depart every Sunday morning at 09:00 from the Market Place in Newbury The NRC Sunday Club Run has 5 objectives:
1 Getting you out on your bike 2 Working hard (but not overly so) 3 Routes and distances that we probably would not cover solo 4 Company of like-minded cyclists 5 Visiting decent cafes. We aim to ride between 80 and 100 Km at an average speed of 23-25 kph depending on the distance and time of year. Typically we return to Newbury between 13:00 and 13:30 having stopped at a cafe at about 11:00 for 20 minutes.Although not a training session in itself, the run will give all participants some good base miles and on the run back some of the faster riders may break-away for the final 20km into Newbury or they may not stop at the cafe and form their own group for the return leg. You are strongly encouraged to wear an approved cycling helmet. Bikes fitted with tri-bars or similar are not permitted on club runs. Music players such as iPods are strongly discouraged because firstly they impair your ability to hear warnings, and secondly club runs are supposed to be a sociable event. We use the club forum to post the destinations and likely routes and the touring member welcomes suggestions for new destinations as well as volunteers to be a guest Run Leader. The club organises longer weekend runs twice a year to a Youth Hostel. These typically cover 160km in a day. The club also organises 2-3 Audaxes a year, which are advertised in the relevant journals as well as on the club forum. Details of the YHA weekends and the Audaxes are published in the Club Calendar and there is usually a discussion group on the club forum with more details. You do not have to be a member to join the Sunday Club runs, so why not come along and have a go? |
